When it comes to Valentine’s Day, you can’t forget your favorite munchkins! Show your love with these adorable Valentine Gifts for kids…sure to get a smile!

It was a quiet, cold February 13th evening a few years ago.  The kids were snoozing, and I was up contemplating, as usual, whether I had done enough to make the holiday special for them.  I already had a small box of $1 chocolates for each of them.

Now I’m not the type of Mom who believes that every event needs to be over the top.  Celebrating in simple ways works out best for my family.

The more you give to kids, the less they appreciate what they have.  It overwhelms their little systems.

So I decided that I’d give them just one more small gift.  Something I could put together at home for free.  Something that would be a small bit of “icing on the cake”.

Valentine’s Gifts for Kids They’ll Love!

Frugal Ways to Celebrate Valentine's Day for Kids

Free Printable Coupons

I put together a set of coupons for each child.  They each get one “stay up late by yourself (as in… one on one time with no siblings!)” pass, one “ice cream with Mom (or Dad)” pass, and one “day free from chores” pass.

When I woke up the next morning, the kids were already holding the coupons I’d left for them.

They were so excited!

Each child chattered about which coupon they would use first.  They thanked me over and over again.

(No one even noticed the chocolate!)

To this day, the kids look forward to this little tradition more than just about anything else on Valentine’s Day.

As the kids have become teens and even young adults, it occurred to me that the “stay up 30 minutes late” pass probably wasn’t too exciting any more.  So I created a second set of coupons you can use.  Mix, match, pass out all of them or just the ones you feel like honoring.

And today, I’d like to share a copy of our coupons with you!  You are free to download, use, and print these only for use in your own home.

Valentine’s Day Foods

But wait, there’s more!  😉

Creating fun Valentine’s Day foods is totally affordable, and it only takes a few minutes.  Heart shaped foods are a favorite, and don’t take a lot of effort.

  • You can spoon pancakes into a heart shape (or just cut them with heart shaped cookie cutters after they have baked).
  • Sandwiches could also be cut with Valentine’s Day themed cookie cutters.
  • Cakes can be decorated with hearts or red and pink sprinkles.
  • For a healthier option, you can arrange fruits or veggies in fun shapes on a plate.

Play the I Love You, because… Game

One year I gave each family member a stack of post it notes and asked them to write one reason that they loved each family member on each post it.  Then we all hid our notes throughout the house for each other to find.

Seeing everyone really get into the spirit of the game was awesome!  They learned to appreciate one another.  And reading all of the notes made them feel special and loved.

Those are some of the ways I make sure my family feels loved on Valentine’s Day!
