This is the 25th edition of the 5 Ways We’ve Saved Money This Week series! Writing this series each week really stretches me in the best frugal ways.
It’s a challenge to come up with 5 different ways each week. But I have to tell you that it really helps me to consider my purchases more carefully!
As always, if you’d like to read some of the other 120 tips in this series, you can read the archives here.
Our #yearofno is in full swing, and you can read more about our BHAG here. (That’s a big, hairy, audacious goal in case you don’t have a BHAG yet.)
Otherwise, let’s dig in to the 5 Ways We’ve Saved Money This Week!
Prescriptions. I stopped to pick up some prescriptions for my hubby, but when they told me that the price of one of them had doubled, I had some serious sticker shock! I told the pharmacist that I would figure out what we were going to do and get back to him.
That’s when he told me that if I went to the drug company’s website, I could sign up for a copay program and save some serious cash.
The drug company wanted some basic information from me and asked a few survey style questions. Then they gave me a code that I could use right away.
The best part was that I was able to do all of this on my phone from the pharmacy, so there was no need to go home and worry about paperwork.
Saved on gas. Yes, gas prices are much lower now than they have been for the past few years. But that doesn’t mean that we should stop trying to save money in this area! I try to run my errands when I’m already scheduled to be out for other appointments and events anyway.
Sometimes it’s annoying to have to wait to purchase an item or to hit a store when my kids are tired from being out already. But in some ways, that saves me money, too. Who wants to linger in a store when you are ready to just be home?
Rain water. One of these days I’m going to write more in depth about our water situation here. Suffice it to say that our water is more expensive for us than it is most of the people who live in our area.
So when we need water for the goats, we try to either catch rain water from the barn roof or haul it across over our hilly yard from the well. This water is free, and since those mama goats are drinking a lot now, it’s saving us a bundle of cash.

Fundraising for baseball. Our baseball and softball seasons are in full swing already. That means that us Moms are scrambling to find uniforms and equipment for these teams. Most of the teams will need to hold some sort of fundraiser.
I was super excited to find Pear. It is by far the easiest fundraiser I have ever done! You can read more details about it here.
Picked the hard choice. Our 10 year old will be taking a trip with his class soon. While I’d love to go along, the price tag for me to attend was a bit high. That money would really be better spent on our #yearofno. So I made the tough choice to not attend this time.
Paying off debt while raising kids is hard. There is a time limit when it comes to kids learning important things and participating in activities. Balancing saying yes to limited opportunities with saying no to yet another activity is tough to do. But I am confident that we can raise well rounded children without spending a fortune to do it.
These 5 ways added on to the other ways we have saved are helping us reach our goals.
How have you done this week? If you found some ways to save money, tell us all about it.
This is such a great post and I love these series idea. What an excellent way to share your money-saving tips and tricks with the world while giving us a little info about your life. I love it. 🙂 Plus, I’d never heard of the pharmacy website, but that’s something I may need to ask our pharmacist about.
Jon uses an OTC med regularly for reflux, and we were able to find a generic much much cheaper on Amazon. (less than half what we were paying locally). Meds are expensive, so good job finding a discount!
For us, switching to the grocery store pharmacy has been a huge savings each month. We spend about half for both our prescriptions now that we used to spend solely on Mr.’s prescriptions alone at the drugstore.
I am convinced you will find your children well rounded as you balance yes with no. We did much the same sort of thing here while paying off debt and the upshot is that we have three children with little to no debt of their own now that they are raising families. Makes us feel quite proud that three of the four have done so well. Two have mortgages only and that is really something in this day and time I think.
These are great tips! I’ve been spending money this week, instead of saving. I should have paid more attention to the calendar, Easter is sneaking up on me. Thanks for sharing on the Homestead Blog Hop!
That happens to me more often than it should! Thanks for visiting.
