It’s time again for another 5 Ways We’ve Saved Money This Week post.  This post is always fun.  I try to fill it with tips that are not too difficult to do, but aren’t necessarily in every other saving money post you’ve ever read.  If you want to see ideas from previous weeks, click here.

I’ll admit that I also enjoy this weekly post, because it challenges me throughout the week to rethink the not so frugal decisions I might be making!  It doesn’t always work, but more often than not I can find a cheaper way to do what needs to be done.

Here are the 5 Ways We’ve Saved Money This Week.

Hit the yard sales.  I was able to find a nice (nearly new) bike for my son, an awesome (future) bug out bag (for only $2!), a pair of croc style shoes for my daughter for next summer, and a ceiling fan for just $5.  Can’t wait for hubby to get that installed!

Free haircut!  I totally did not plan this out, but I’m still taking credit for it.  I do not get my hair cut often enough, and every September I get fed up with it and get it cut short.  This time, I asked her to cut off everything to my shoulders.  The stylist measured the length and found that I had enough to donate.  That was awesome.

But then she said that because I was donating my hair, I would be getting the cut for free.  So that was even more awesome!  For just the price of a tip, I got my hair done.  And now hopefully I’ll keep up with it a little better.

Also, with my hair being so much shorter now, I only need half of the shampoo I was previously using.  And as soon as I remember that before squirting the shampoo into my hand, I’ll start saving money there, too… ha!5 Ways We've Saved Money This Week: Simple #frugal ideas you can incorporate into your family life.

Bought hay from a farmer to fill our barn loft.  This move easily saved me half the money I would have spent on each bale of hay at our local feed mill.  Now our goats should be set for the winter.  Not to mention how great it feels that we will have something to feed them even if the weather turns nasty and we can’t get to town for a day or two.

Potluck meal with family.  We brought a dish to a family gathering, which is a lot of fun and a fairly frugal meal.

Hit the park.  The kids had a bonus day off of school this week.  I always like to take the kids to do something fun on days off of school, and it was the perfect day to go to the park.  I got to teach my big boys how to play tether ball (I won…hey, I have to get it in now before they outgrow my massive 5’1″ height!), and we had a lot of fun together.
