Only 8% of all people accomplish their New Year’s Resolutions (source). Why do you think that is? I think it’s because they make half-hearted attempts at making a change only to quit before they really get started.
Not you.
You’re going to rock this new year! 2017 is the year you get your finances in shape. I’m here to help you through it.
Today is the start of the Secure Your Savings and Find Peace in the New Year 30 day challenge. Let’s talk about exactly what this challenge is and how you can set yourself up for success.
What’s the Challenge?
I’m challenging you to find $500 to fill your emergency fund or your sinking fund. (They’re two different things. Learn more about sinking funds here.) This step is essential in helping you get the rest of your finances in order. If you start paying off debt before you accomplish this, you’ll find it impossible to break away from using credit cards.
If finding $500 sounds like an impossible task, then this challenge is designed for you! I’m dedicating the next 30 days to helping you find ways to save and earn enough money to fill this fund.
What It’s Not
I will not promise you that you’ll have $500 on January 31st. But if you implement all of these steps in January, you should see results within a couple of months. And some of the items should give you a faster turnaround than that.
Since $500 divided by 30 days is $16.67, I’ll round that up to $17. Each of the ways I am showing you should gain you at least $17 (and some of them will gain you more than that).
None of this is a get rich quick scheme, so come in with your sleeves rolled up, ready to put in a bit of work. A little effort now will pay off big later!
Get Ready With a Thermometer Chart
Take these steps to set yourself up for success:
- Decide on your specific goal. Will you be working on an emergency fund? Sinking funds? Do you already have those set up? Then choose a different money goal to accomplish. Write this down. Picture what success will look like.
- Print off this thermometer chart. (Click to download and print the PDF.) Hang it someplace you’ll see every day. As you accomplish each $50, color it in. Cheer yourself on!
- Sign up for emails so you don’t miss a day of the challenge.
4. Share with family and friends that are ready for a money challenge!
With that thermometer chart in hand, now you’re ready to tackle the new year!
Prepare yourself to be part of the 8%.
Which goal are you trying to accomplish with this 30 day challenge?
This is awesome. I think we need to be serious about our goals if we want to really make a change and succeed.
Happy 2017!
I am trying to invest more in 2017. Right now I throw my money in a low interest earning savings account, but I know I should do more.
I like your challenge, sharing it on twitter and pinterest.
Yay, thank you for the share! Good luck with your investing. I can’t wait to get there.
