What if I told you that I have a pizza dough recipe that takes less time than ordering a pizza and waiting for delivery?

Oh, and it takes like 5 minutes of effort, too.

Sound too good to be true?

Well I’m here to tell you that I’ve been making this recipe for 15 years, and it is one of the few things in life that sounds good and actually IS true.

That’s right.

Oh, and it has no weird ingredients. Even in this economy, it’s a great frugal choice.

Delicious, Easy, Frugal, DIY Homemade Pizza Recipe

First, you’re gonna make the pizza dough.

No worries, there is no kneading required. And you can let it rise for as little as 10 minutes and still have delicious dough.

(My daughter just wants me to make this part and let her eat it as is!)

Easy Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe

This homemade pizza recipe takes 5 minutes to put together.

Course Main Course
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 T quick rise yeast or one packet
  • 1 c lukewarm water
  • 2 1/2 c flour
  • 2 T olive oil
  • 1 t basil (or your favorite pizza herb)
  • 1 T brown sugar OR honey
  • 1 t salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

  2. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in the warm water.

  3. Add remaining ingredients. Mix well.

  4. Allow your dough to rise for at least 10 minutes. You can wait longer for fluffier dough, but even 10 minutes will produce a great pizza crust.

  5. Roll or press dough into a shape and size that fits your pan. You determine if you want a thick or thin crust. Remember that the crust will rise as it bakes.

  6. Add any sauce, cheese, and toppings you prefer.

  7. Bake for 20 minutes, or until crust is slightly brown and cheese is is bubbly.

Recipe Notes

For homemade pizza sauce, I simply dump an 8 oz can of tomato sauce into a pot.  I add a T of olive oil, and pizza seasonings such as basil, oregano, garlic, onion, and/or just Italian seasonings and mix.  Heat this up over medium heat just until warm.  Add to your rolled out pizza dough.  Top with your favorite cheese and toppings.  I love to use up leftover meats and veggies as my toppings for a super frugal meal.

Frugal Pizza Topping Ideas

My favorite frugal pizza toppings are leftovers! What’s in your fridge right now? Here are some ideas:

  • sausage
  • chicken
  • hamburger
  • bacon (if you ever have leftover bacon, that is…)
  • ham
  • olives (just slice them up if they’re whole)
  • just about any veggies

If you save a scoop of meat from your recipes through the week, that could be saved for pizza toppings. And you’ll never miss it in the original recipe.

You can also keep some things in the pantry such as bags of pepperoni, olives, pimentos, some canned meats, etc. Think about the foods your family loves!

And you’re in charge here, so it’s super easy to make your pizza toppings half and half to please more people.

Also, don’t feel like you have to use mozzarella if you don’t have any on hand. Try other cheeses and see what you think!

You just gotta try this simple homemade pizza recipe.

My family begs for homemade pizza, and I think your’s will too.
