If you are looking for a complete 2 week meal plan that is frugal and includes recipes and suggestions for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks…then you’ve come to the right place!
We have this big, hairy, audacious goal (BHAG) in our home to pay off some significant debt this year.

One big part of that plan involves saving in the grocery area. Unoriginal? Maybe.
But it’s the one big chunk of the budget that is the most easily manipulated. So we’re ok with being a little cliche if it gets us closer to our goals.
Winter has finally arrived in our area. We enjoyed some lovely weather for a long time. You won’t hear me complaining about that!
But these colder temperatures we have now has me reaching for the comfort food.
Our 2 Week Meal Plan
I’m such a believer in meal plans for saving money, that if I were a working mom right now…I would definitely pay someone else to do the planning.
This one costs just $5 and I know you’ll save way more than that. So worth it!

Breakfast
Simple and frugal when I can, cereal when I can’t.

Supper
- steak (Here’s the story about why you keep seeing steak on a frugal menu.)
- beef stew (Finally found a recipe I think hubby will like!)
- fish tacos with sauce
- Taco Dump Soup
- grilled chicken
- white chicken chili
- chicken tacos
- roasted chicken
- carnitas
- breakfast for dinner (brinner!) Usually ends up being sausage gravy, sometimes pancakes.
- leftovers
- big salads with leftover meats for toppings
- homemade pizza
- Hubby’s birthday supper (lasagna!)
Our snacks and extras include
- fresh fruit
- crackers
- cookies
- birthday carrot cake
- ice cream
- popcorn
And that’s it! I try to keep my meals pretty simple, and they do become repetitive. But my family enjoys these foods and they are frugal enough to keep on the menu regularly.

What foods do you enjoy this time of year?
I find meal planning to impossible! I’m a vegetarian, my husband eats according to strict nutritional macros to reach fitness goals, and my toddler, well, you’ve experienced toddlers! 🙂 I hope to do a better job in the future, maybe at least meal planning for my little ones now that my baby has started eating solids.
When my first two were babies and toddlers I was working and hubby was working and going to school full time. So we did a lot of meals by the seat of our pants in those days! I totally get it. You do whatever works for the season of life you are in.
Sometimes cheap meals are the best ones! My husband works night shift, so it’s just me and the toddler at night, which makes dinner easy and relatively cheap. When it’s chilly as it has been, I just make a huge pot of soup on Monday and eat it all week since I don’t mind leftovers (like my husband)
I agree! Most of the cheaper meals are hearty, comforting foods. I think some soups and stews taste better as the flavors meld over time anyway. And sometimes when we get tired of it, I just freeze some of it to pull out later when we are less tired of it.

Wow, that’s great! Thanks so much. 🙂
As a single mom who eats alone 2-3 nights a week meal planning is easy because I just have to think of me. Even though it’s simple, its still very important because when I don’t plan I either end up cooking too large of a meal and getting sick of it after day 3, or I don’t know what to eat and end up standing over the sink with a bowl of cereal. You have some great ideas here
Thank you! You’re right, just about everyone can benefit from meal planning. Thanks for visiting!
My family also has a big debt pay off goal and groceries are definitely an area we need to work on being more frugal. Thanks for the ideas.
That’s great that you’ve set that goal for yourselves. I’m cheering you on! I’ve posted lots of frugal ideas here that we are using on our debt free journey. Hopefully you’ll find them helpful. Thanks for visiting!
