Ahhh, October.
The time of year I like to play a little game called…try not to turn on the heat until November 1.
I don’t always love that game, but my wallet does. 😉
One thing that makes winning the game easier is having hearty, steamy foods that warm you up from the inside.
Yum!
So the meal plan is full of them this time.
Two Week Meal Plan for October
Around here, I like to meal plan 2 weeks at a time.
I hate putting dates to meals (Monday is lasagna, etc.) because inevitably Monday turns into a crumby day and the last thing I want to do is make lasagna.
So now I just make a list and pick the meal that works best each day as I go.
Also, I find a handful of supper ideas a frustrating meal plan. So I cover all 3 meals, plus snacks!
Here it is…
Breakfast
- cereal
- pancakes
- cranberry apple crisp
- bacon and eggs
Lunches
- sandwiches (PB&J, lunchmeat, nutella and graham crackers)
- hard boiled eggs
- salads
- leftovers
- peanut butter or cheese and crackers
- yogurt or cheese
- fresh fruits and veggies
- pudding, cookies, chips, pretzels, or some sort of small treat
Supper
- whole roasted chicken
- Easy White Chicken Chili (made with leftovers from whole chicken)
- grilled chicken on salad (hubby will grill in any weather)
- cobb salad
- hamburgers and hot dogs
- ham & beans
- Baklava Salmon (I get my salmon at Aldi for a reasonable price.)
- tacos
- pulled pork
- pork chops
- leftovers
- spaghetti
- 3 Bean Chili Chowder
- Rich and Creamy Potato Soup
- Sides will include potatoes, rice, pasta, cooked and fresh veggies, and salads
Snacks and Desserts
Be sure to check out my easy list of snack ideas for kids!
- ice cream
- Grandma’s Apple Crisp recipe
- birthday cake
- fresh fruit
- graham crackers
- popcorn
- soft pretzels
- apple pie
- Baked Pears w/ Honey, Cranberries, and Pecans (a yummy Pinterest find!)
What’s on your meal plan this week?
You are so organised! I rarely even know what I’ll be making that day, let alone two weeks ahead! #ShowcaseTuesday
Debbie
That’s why I don’t assign a day to the food. That way I can just pick the thing from the list that best suits our schedule and mood for food.
Debbie is so right you are very organised.
Thanks for linking with #ShowcaseTuesday
I try to be anyway! Thanks for hosting. 🙂
It may sound weird, but my meal planning for the week will be done today, on Wednesday.
It’s because we do the groceries now mostly on Tuesdays evening. So I first by the ingredients I have in mind and depending on their expiration date, I combine them for variation.
Thanks for sharing it on #tiptuesday .
That makes sense! I think that’s a great way to meal plan, especially so you use up foods before they go bad. I love the little spins each family puts on their meal planning to make it their own.
We could always use menu planning ideas! Thank you for sharing on the Art of Home-Making Mondays this week! 🙂
Great! Thanks for hosting. 🙂
Having a plan is always best, and having a plan for 2 weeks ahead is even better! I too rotate out our meal plans recycling them each month, and occasionally adding a new dish, or depending on what vegetables/fruits are in season as well. Great tips! Visiting you from the Home Party 🙂
Sounds like we have a pretty similar way of planning! I like using in season produce because you get more variety that way (not to mention the cost savings!). Thanks for visiting. 🙂
I love meal plans and I love looking at other family’s meal plan (odd huh?). I create one every Sunday but I have to admit that I need to get inspired so I tend to look at your menu plans to get ideas. 🙂 What I like about yours is the 2 weeks plan. I have to think I have to try that see how it works. Any suggestions?
No, I totally agree with you! I like seeing other family’s meal plans, too. I really like to keep it simple, but I don’t want to be stuck in a rut. Sometimes other plans give me new ideas or remind me of meals that my family loves, but hasn’t had in a while.
