When writing up a meal plan on Halloween, it’s important to resist the urge to write “candy” in every spot.
Tempting as that is, you’re probably better off taking a piece here and there and eating it in the closet like a normal Mom. It’s called portion control.
ha!
Now, I don’t want to start a political battle here (especially because I’d rather watch back to back episodes of Caillou than see one more election ad), but…
I think that it’s important to teach your kids about taxes using their trick or treat candy.
There, I said it.

The birthday boy didn’t even realize that he’d get presents! Three-year-olds are refreshingly easy to please when it comes to things like birthdays. We were lucky enough to plan our “baby’s” party for a perfect fall afternoon. No need for a lot of games or food on a day like that. We kept it pretty simple, and everyone seemed to have a nice time.
Always look for the good, and learn to be satisfied in simple things. You’ll appreciate the simplicity of life even more than the money you’ll save. Just another lesson we’re learning in our #yearofno.

I glanced at the computer for the 40th time that morning.
The email tab stayed open all day long so I could see right away when I’d made a sale on eBay.
I loved the rush of the sale. I even made enough money to help us pay for a vacation.
But it wasn’t long before I had more items in stock than I was able to sell. And that led to a whole new ball of problems.

No matter how we cranked, the well wouldn’t pump anymore. That didn’t stop the goats from being thirsty, so our boys had to fill 5-gallon buckets with the hose and carry water from our house. Since we have to pay for hauled water due to our water circumstances, that isn’t cheap.
It was a relief when the skies finally opened and gave us a good rain. Well, maybe not great that we got a couple of week’s worth of rain in the span of a few hours, but at least we have water available again!

Ever since I started blogging about our #yearofno, I have gotten a lot of questions. Where did we come up with it? How does it work?
Well, #yearofno has made a tremendous difference in the way our family runs (for the better). So I want to share what we’ve learned, because I think you can benefit from it, too.

Decorating our home for Halloween isn’t always top on my list of things to do. I couldn’t write “has an eye for design” on my resume.
But putting together my 13 Cheap Halloween Decorations Easier Than Screaming in a Haunted House post inspired me. There are plenty of ideas out there that cost little to nothing. And they’re so easy that even I can do them!
So for once, we have some new decorations to help us get into the season. I even put up a scarecrow that the kids are calling “No Noggin”. (If you have a Curious George lover in your house, you get it.)
