5 Ways We’ve Saved Money This Week 99

5 Ways We’ve Saved Money This Week 99

Last weekend, we attended my Dad’s retirement party.  People wrote ideas for his bucket list, and I couldn’t resist having a little fun with the cherry pie I made (Dad’s favorite!).

I’m so happy for him.  After all, my parents are absolute whizzes when it comes to pinching a penny.  After years of being responsible with their money, my parents are able to retire without the debt that so many others still have.

I’m keeping that in mind when we make our own money goals!

Grocery shopping is a mindful process for the frugal.  I’ve shopped at a bigger chain for years, because between coupons (they often send me coupons for $20 off my purchase!), discounted gas, and deal stacking, it’s worked great for saving my family a ton of money.

But lately I’m starting to wonder if I wouldn’t be better off finding the time to shop at Aldi instead.  Is it just me, or are grocery prices climbing again?

I’ll let you know how this goes and if shopping Aldi is a money saver for our family of 7.  I have shopped at Aldi in the past, but it hasn’t been my “go to” grocery store for years.  So if you’ve got any hot Aldi tips, leave a comment!

There’s nothing like a little late night (well, late for a second grader) time spent looking up a rhyme for the word “aren’t”.  Helpful hint: there are no words that rhyme with aren’t.  Luckily, I have a feeling the teacher will be pretty lenient about this.

The further I get in life, the more I realize that you don’t have to be perfect all the time.  In fact, more often than not it sets you up for failure.

So sometimes, you fudge it just a little.  Maybe you run out of money earlier in the pay period than you should have and you have to get extra creative about your spending until the next pay day.  It happens.

I am one lucky duck.  Early last week my nephew was born.  And late in the week, one of my bestest friends had a son, too.  How often do you get to cuddle a brand new baby at either end of a stressed out week??  It was wonderful, and I absolutely love those little bundles of joy.

In between cuddles, we’ve been cleaning and mending in preparation for cold weather.  There’s no sign of cold in southern Ohio right now (how about you?), but we all know it’s coming!  Better to be the ant than the grasshopper.

After riding the struggle bus for a good couple of months, we finally had some good news this week.  We’ve paid off credit card number 2!!!  Only imaginary balloons fell from the sky, but it was good enough for me!

What a relief to no longer have to divide our attention.  From here on out, all extra money will be devoted to one cause only: the last credit card.  This one is a medium sized guy… actually half the size of the first one we tackled.  So we’re hoping it falls fast!  We’re projected to be debt free in March.  Keep pushing us!  We love your cheers and encouragement.  <3
