Use this meal plan in May to save even more money by buying what’s in season.
Meal planning might not always be a lot of fun, but it saves enough money to make it worth it. I like to share the meal plans I make each week in the hopes that I save other Moms some time and effort.
School lets out this week for us, so the meal plan will start to change a little bit. It will be easier to make pancakes and warm up leftovers during the day.
At Medium Sized Family, we like to celebrate Fridays by reflecting back on the ways our family has saved money this week.
It’s our own version of Frugal Friday.
I always try to bring you 5 new ideas that we haven’t talked about in previous weeks. I hope that you’ll find new ideas, or that these suggestions will spark some creativity in your own frugal journey.
May is such a busy month. School is winding down and everyone is cramming in as many last minute projects and programs as possible.
It’s tough to keep the good habits in place that we’ve adjusted to over the past several months. Buying lunch is so much easier than packing one! But we’re mostly successful.
I’m excited to have a post featured today at The Penny Hoarder. I hope regular readers of Medium Sized Family will jump over and check it out! I’m going into detail about how our motto, #yearofno, has helped our family gain ground on our big goal of paying off debt this year.

Inside: The importance of sports in life go well beyond the foul lines of the field. Forget about scores and statistics…there are important lessons to be learned!
I held my breath. The ball was headed towards short stop, and we needed a good play to end the inning. I knew it would take a spectacular move for my son to make the play, but he’d done it before. But it wasn’t meant to be this time. The ball bounced off of his shoe and headed out to left field.
He was clearly aggravated, but he ran to catch the cut off throw. And he finished the play. I was relieved to see his teammate walk over and give him a quick pat on the back. Our third baseman had a knack for using just the right words to bring our son back to calm so he could get back to the game.
Our family is stacked with baseball lovers. But for us, the importance of sports in life isn’t about winning or playing at a professional level. It’s really about the strong lessons they take away from the field.
The key here is letting your kids learn these lessons. It’s tempting as parents to want to save them from their feelings. But if you let them learn how to deal on their own, they’ll be better for it.
Another week is in the books. Did you find ways to save money this week? I’m sure you did!
When you stop to think about it, most of us have developed certain habits over time that naturally lead to saving money. Using the last drop, flipping switches. Small things that add up to big savings.
“Mommy! I need my diaper changed, my, my diaper changed!”
Not only can my 2 year old sign a Lady Gaga parody song that his father taught him about diaper change time, but he can also identify when he has a dirty diaper.
And that, my friends, is a sign that it’s time to grab your best potty training tips and head for the bathroom.
I'm Jamie, and I want to help you afford a beautiful life with your family. Learn more.
