What a crazy week it has been! The kids were off on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (of course). Then off again on Wednesday due to snow. And they spent the entire week talking about a ton of snow hitting today, so who knows how the week will end for us?

Every year, my brother hosts a football party for “The Big Game”. To make the party more interesting, he likes to hold competitions. Every guest is encouraged to bring an entry and try to win. It’s a lot of fun… not only to find a great recipe to show off, but also to get to eat a variety of other “best recipes”.

Happy Monday to you! Do you have the day off in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr? The kids are off of school and the hubby is home for the day here.
You’re probably tired of hearing about the baby goats by now, but it was a really exciting week for us here last week! In case you aren’t tired of it, be sure to “like” my Facebook page since I’ll likely do most of my goat baby pictures and videos over there. (But don’t be too surprised if the cuties make an occasional appearance here on the blog. 🙂 )

Happy Friday to you! It’s been such a busy week here that I’m not sure if I accomplished much at all from my weekly goals. But having baby goats is a very exciting time!
Having our first kidding has not been cheap, but most of the supplies we’ve bought can be used for many years. So as long as we continue to breed our does, it’s money well spent. And should we change our minds, we ought to be able to sell our supplies to another goat farmer.

I was so happy to get my yearly goals set last week. It’s nice to have a vision of what I want to do with my year. It helps me to make an effort to do the things I want to do in life before it’s too late. It’s so easy to get into a rut and do the same things day in and day out.
Each week, I like to set goals that are really just baby steps to keep me on track and marching towards those SMART yearly goals.

It’s Friday, that favored day of the week where people are almost as excited about the weekend coming as they are about another installment of 5 Ways We’ve Saved Money This Week!
In case you weren’t waiting anxiously for this post (is that sarcasm overkill so early in this article?) and have stumbled upon this series for the first time, here are the rules. Each week I tell you 5 new and different ways that our family has managed to save money in the past week. I try not to repeat myself, and I try not to mention coffee. (Except this one time when I did. But the hubby wrote that post, so I’m not sure it even counts.)
If you want to read the entire series, you can check it out here.
If you’d like to make sure you don’t miss out on future 5 Ways posts, you can follow me on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest.

There are two times of the year that I feel especially compelled to examine what I am accomplishing with my life. One is the start of a new school year. The other is New Year’s Day.
I’m a little boring and predictable like that. But that’s ok.
During the first week of each new year, I sit down with paper, pencil, and the hubby. We discuss what we’d like to accomplish with our new year. Some years we feel excited to achieve big things. Some years we feel tired and just try to finish nagging tasks.
I am excited that 2016 is going to be a “big thing” year! Some people call goals like this a BHAG. Big, hairy, audacious goals. You can only accomplish a BHAG if you are in the right frame of mind. It’s not something you can go into half heartedly. So I’m happy to find that both myself and my hubby are in that frame of mind. 2016 is going to be an awesome year! (Because we have determined to make the best of it regardless of circumstances.)
