I am not a crafty or creative person. Most of the time when I try to tackle a project, it does not look the way the instructions promised me. I’m starting to suspect that the problem isn’t that the directions for every project on Earth are wrong…

Why doesn’t mine look like that?!?

Yes, I have a big family. No, I’m not overwhelmed. Having a big family is a joy for so many reasons!
When our third baby was born, people started to raise their eyebrows just a bit. I heard a few comments about “knowing what causes that.”
Then I got pregnant with our fourth baby. Because we had three boys in our large family home, people just assumed that we were trying for a girl. That wasn’t actually the case, but surprisingly, we “got our girl”.
And then I became pregnant with baby number five.
And later…number six!
That baffled a lot of people. Why in the world would we have another baby when we already had both boys and a girl?
Meanwhile, I wonder the total opposite.
Why do people consider kids a collectible item? I don’t have babies because I’m trying to get a specific type of child.
I have a big family for so many better reasons. Here are just a few.

The phone rang, and I glanced at the number.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I answered. Turns out, I was in for a surprise.
The fifth graders at school had been in a stiff competition to get first choice of t-shirt color for the big end of the school year bash.
You might think that my child lost the competition…but nope. Actually, his class won.
And that was the problem.

Every Friday, I like to post about ways we have saved money this week. I try to share ideas that go beyond skipping Starbucks daily. (You can go ahead and assume I made my own coffee at home every day!) When you are raising 5 kids on one income, you have to look for deeper ways to be frugal.

Well, our kids have been back to school for about two weeks now. Which means it is time for them to bring home some germs. My kids won’t always share their toys, but they are usually pretty generous when it comes to sharing the sickies!
I guess I can’t complain too much. We enjoyed a nice long summer with minimal illness. But a few days ago our 1 year old became very fussy and clingy. And now I know exactly how he was feeling, because he shared with his Mama. This cold is a doozy!
